Innovation happens at the interface
Mark Jones blends deep technical insight with commercially-focused legal strategy. A qualified British and European patent attorney and a registered Unified Patent Court representative, Mark is adept at guiding clients through the entire IP lifecycle, from invention disclosure to multi-jurisdictional litigation.
With a foundation in physics and a subsequent doctorate in quantum information processing, Mark's practice is built on a precise understanding of complex engineering and applied science. This technical rigour allows him to effectively prosecute, defend, and enforce patents across some of the most demanding industries, including aerospace, medical devices, optics and robotics.
Mark is trusted by businesses of all sizes, from high-growth scale-ups to established multi-nationals, to secure and protect their most valuable assets. He delivers cost-efficient and commercially valuable patent portfolios, ensuring protection is aligned with the client's competitive market position and R&D investment.
Mark is a highly effective advocate in defending patent rights, having represented his clients in hundreds of hearings before patent offices and courts. He skillfully leverages the rigorous EPO Opposition and Opposition Appeal procedures to challenge competitor patents or cement the validity of his clients' grants. As a registered UPC Representative, Mark provides clients with an experienced guide for the new era of unified patent litigation in Europe, focusing on proactive strategy and decisive action.
Mark is also committed to advancing the practice of IP law and sharing knowledge within the global innovation community. He is a regular speaker at international practitioner conferences and hosts workshops to keep clients and partner firms informed on the latest developments in UK and European IP law and practice.
In his life outside the office, Mark is a dedicated enthusiast of the Anglican choral tradition, holding a fellowship with the Guild of Musicians and Singers. He also balances the rigour of IP law with the thrill of engineering, having personally built and maintained a track-capable kit car.
