UPC Announces Third Panel for Court of Appeal Starting January 2026

In response to the growing number of appeals, the Unified Patent Court (UPC) has announced the establishment of a third panel of its Court of Appeal, effective January 2026.

The new panel will include:

• Ms Ulrike Voß, currently presiding judge at the UPC’s Court of First Instance
• Mr Bart van den Broek, Dutch IP litigator
• Ms Nathalie Sabotier, magistrate at the French Cour de Cassation

The appointments were confirmed by the Administrative Committee on 2 July 2025, following a recommendation from the Advisory Committee.

Judge Klaus Grabinski, President of the Court of Appeal, welcomed the move, according to the official press release, noting the panel will help manage the increasing caseload and enhance flexibility in case allocation.
