Breaking News: the UK Opts-Out of UPCA
UPC-News | 28.02.2020
The UK will not join the Unified Patent Court system, reports iam, citing a spokesperson of the UK government (https://www.iam-media.com/law-policy/uk-no-upc). This is a major set-back to the EU patent package, which will be less attractive without the UK.
Also, the remaining member states will have to agree on where to move the UPC’s central division (life sciences), with Italy and the Netherlands currently being favourites. As a result, the implementation of the system, if it enters into force at all, will almost certainly be substantially delayed, regardless of the outcome of the German constitutional complaint filed against Germany’s accession.
